US President Donald Trump has announced the next stage of his administration’s efforts to secure peace in Gaza by unveiling the next phase of the 20-Point Peace Plan.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social account on Friday, January 16, 2026, Trump highlighted the progress made since the recent ceasefire, noting that his team has delivered “record levels of humanitarian aid” to Gaza at “historic speed and scale.”
He added that this effort has been acknowledged by the United Nations as “unprecedented.”
“As Steve Witkoff announced, we have officially entered the next phase of Gaza’s 20-Point Peace Plan!” said Trump.
Trump confirmed his support for a newly appointed Palestinian technocratic government, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which will oversee the territory during its transitional period.
The US president stated that this group is unwaveringly committed to a peaceful future.

He also outlined the conditions for Hamas, stating that, with backing from Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, the US aims to secure a comprehensive demilitarisation agreement. This agreement includes the surrender of all weapons, the dismantling of tunnels, and the immediate return of the last Israeli body held by Hamas. Trump warned that the group must comply without delay or face serious consequences.
“They can do this the easy way or the hard way. The people of Gaza have suffered long enough. The time is now,” Trump said.
President Trump’s statement follows remarks by Steve Witkoff, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Peace Missions, who stated that the US expects Hamas to fully comply with its obligations, including the immediate return of the final deceased hostage. Witkoff stressed that failure to do so will result in serious consequences.
Witkoff noted that Phase One delivered historic humanitarian aid, maintained the ceasefire, and ensured the return of all living hostages as well as the remains of 27 out of the 28 deceased hostages. He expressed gratitude to Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar for their essential mediation efforts that made the progress to date possible.
In October 2025, a US-brokered 20-point peace deal initiated a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. This deal facilitated the return of nearly all living hostages held by Hamas and the release of approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners from Israel.

Despite the ceasefire, the conflict has not fully ended. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the war is not over, and daily military actions continue.
On the other hand, Hamas has refused to publicly commit to full disarmament, while Israel maintains control over more than half of Gaza’s territory and continues to carry out numerous strikes.
