Social Health Authority (SHA) CEO Mercy Mwangangi has revealed plans the introduction of Clinical Decision Support tool. This will enhance safety of the patients whereby medical errors are being monitored and minimized by this tool.

According to Mwangangi, this tool is designed to transform the prescription process by automatically rejecting wrong prescription before they reach the patient.

“We actually want to introduce a Clinical Decision Support tool in the coming year,” said Mwangangi.

Mwangangi stated that they are trying to get every Kenyan data concerning their health to pile them in “Afya yangu portal” whereby when prescription is done by the doctor and doesn’t match, it will automatically reject.

Mwangangi stated that change is hard, but it needs time, this comes after hospitals like Mbagathi got problems in using latest technology on patients using SHA making it hard for Kenyans to access medical in that hospital.

According to Mwangangi, SHA is modified to use Super Artificial Intelligence (AI) and very soon Elon Musk is going to buy in.

The main function of the Clinical Decision Support tool is to detect danger in drugs, incorrect dosages and allergic reaction risks.

This tool will transform the health sector into the national digital health infrastructure whereby assistance to medical professionals is being provided in real-time.

SHA system will have database that include the patient’s medical history, known allergies, existing conditions, and other medications they are taking.

“We want to introduce a Clinical Decision Support tool that will ensure that your doctor does not give you a prescription that would cause harm. The system will auto reject it,” she said.

Mwangangi said they have engaged various stakeholders and asking them what relationship and support they need that will work for them and they will adjust to them after making some reviews from their comments.
