MP Survives Road Accident While Heading to Ruto’s Event

Buuri Member of Parliament Mugambi Rindikiri was on Thursday January 22, involved in a road accident at Siraji, Timau, along the busy Meru–Nanyuki Road.

The incident occurred as the legislator was travelling to Kinoru Stadium to attend President William Ruto’s NYOTA programme, a flagship youth empowerment initiative.

Initial reports stated that the collision involved the MP’s black SUV and a matatu; both vehicles showed visible damage.

While there were no fatalities or serious injuries reported at the scene, this was a worry suppressed for the residents and other road users who witnessed the crash.

In a social media update published on Thursday, January 22, the lawmaker confirmed that he indeed was involved in the accident and assured the public of his safety.

He further stated that the occupants of the other vehicle, which was carrying Catholic sisters, were also safe and in good condition.

“My team and I appreciate the concern shown following a road incident. We are all safe and doing well. Thank you to my constituents and fellow Kenyans for the prayers and goodwill,” he said.

Incident Details and Public Response

The MP noted that the accident happened as he was en route to Kinoru Stadium for President Ruto’s NYOTA programme, an event that had drawn leaders and youths from across the region.

After the update, Kenyans on social media platforms welcomed the new development, wishing him all the best in their prayers for a quick recovery, relieved that there were no lives lost.

Photos seen by hivileo.co.ke showed the MP’s black SUV had suffered severe front-end damage, with its bonnet crushed inward and debris scattered across the road.

The matatu that was involved had also sustained damage on its front right side, corroborating the intensity of the collision.

Traffic police were present to control the situation and maintain order among onlookers who stood by to witness what was happening.

At this stage, official reports on what led to the accident had not been released by the relevant authority.

Profile of Mugambi Rindikiri

Mugambi Rindikiri is a seasoned professional with a rich academic and career history, with previous work experience in the public and private sectors.

Rindikiri is currently the Buuri MP and was elected to the position in 2017.

Mugambi is a holder of a degree in B. A. Economics and Sociology, earned in 1984 from the University of Nairobi.

Mugambi had previously pursued his primary school education at Kimbo Primary, Kibirichia Boys Secondary, and Meru School.

Prior to joining politics, Rindikiri has worked in top positions in the insurance and telecommunication industry.

For instance, he worked as a Chairman and a Director at Channel Insurance Brokers Ltd between 2003 and 2017, a Division Manager at Madison Insurance Company from 1995 to 2003, and a Branch Manager at British American Insurance Company from 1991 to 1995.

Before that, he worked as a Planning Officer at Kenya Posta and Telecommunications Corporation from 1984 to 1991.
