KUCCPS Courses Where Physics is Not Compulsory

When applying for university or college placement through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), Physics is not a compulsory subject for a wide range of marketable and professional courses in Kenya.

KUCCPS recognises that learners have different strengths, and as a result, many programmes prioritise subjects such as Mathematics, English, Biology, Geography, History, Business Studies, or Computer Studies instead of Physics.

Some of the courses include:

Education Courses

Physics is not compulsory for most education degrees, except when training specifically as a Physics teacher.

Examples include:

  • Bachelor of Education (Arts)
  • Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education)
  • Bachelor of Education (Primary Option)
  • Bachelor of Education (Languages)

Business, Economics and Commerce Courses

These programmes mainly require Mathematics and English.

  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • Bachelor of Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Economics
  • Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management
  • Bachelor of Entrepreneurship

Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Physics is not required in these disciplines.

  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Bachelor of Sociology
  • Bachelor of Political Science
  • Bachelor of Criminology and Security Studies
  • Bachelor of International Relations
  • Bachelor of Psychology
  • Bachelor of Social Work

 Law and Legal Studies

Bachelor of Laws (LLB)

(Physics is not required; strong performance in English or Kiswahili is emphasised.)

Hospitality, Tourism and Creative Courses

  • Bachelor of Hospitality Management
  • Bachelor of Tourism Management
  • Bachelor of Hotel and Restaurant Management
  • Bachelor of Fashion Design
  • Bachelor of Fine Art
  • Film and Theatre Arts

Health and Life Sciences (Selected Courses)

Some health-related courses do not require Physics, focusing more on Biology and Chemistry.

  • Bachelor of Environmental Health
  • Bachelor of Community Health
  • Bachelor of Public Health
  • Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics

ICT and Information-Based Courses (Selected)

Some ICT programmes may accept Mathematics without Physics.

  • Bachelor of Information Science

  • Bachelor of Records and Archives Management

Agriculture and Environmental Studies

  • Bachelor of Agriculture
  • Bachelor of Agribusiness Management
  • Bachelor of Environmental Studies

Key Notes for Applicants

Course requirements vary by university, even when applying through KUCCPS.

Always confirm cluster subjects and minimum grades before selecting a programme.

Not having Physics does not limit your chances of joining a university or pursuing a professional career.
