Hospital Under Fire After Mother Left With Dead Foetus for Days

Share

Kitengela Sub-County Level Four Hospital is facing serious backlash following allegations of medical negligence after a young expectant mother was reportedly left to suffer for days despite doctors confirming that her unborn baby had died in the womb.

The woman, identified as Abigael Mutubula, says she first visited the hospital on Thursday, expecting to deliver her baby.

Medical tests later confirmed that the foetus had died in the uterus.

“They told me my baby had died, then left me like that,” she said.

According to Abigael, instead of receiving urgent medical intervention, she was subjected to repeated inductions without further care, even as her condition deteriorated.

“They did a scan and realized the baby is dead, no kicking. From there, I was told I should opt for a caesarean,” Abigael said.

She revealed that she was given consent forms to sign for a caesarean section, which she agreed to, only for doctors to change their decision later.

“I was given the agreement of consent to sign, and I did. After signing, the doctor came and told me there was no need to go for the caesarean, instead I be induced to reduce the pain,” she stated.

Repeated Induction, No Delivery

Abigael says she has since been induced multiple times, roughly every four hours, without the dead foetus being removed.

“After four hours elapse they induced me again. This is routine right now. I’m feeling a lot of pain,” she said.

“After being induced, I stayed since yesterday. That is what’s now being done, just living with the pain as there’s no sign of help.”

When a Citizen TV crew visited the facility, Abigael was found outside the hospital gate, visibly distressed and in pain.

Locked Out of Maternity Ward

Despite her worsening condition, Abigael was allegedly locked out of the maternity ward when she attempted to seek help.

Nurses and security guards were seen confronting her at the gate, showing little concern for her condition.

A relative accompanying her questioned the hospital’s handling of the situation.

“Since yesterday the doctors have just been inducing her to push the baby. As a family, we kept asking ourselves why anytime we go to the hospital entrance, we’re being chased away,” the relative said.

Family Alleges Hostility and Dismissal

A family friend accused hospital staff of being hostile and dismissive whenever they sought answers or requested a transfer.

“They’ve been rude and hostile to us whenever we ask them why they keep mistreating the patient,” the family friend said.

“When we asked them why they left the lady for three days with a dead child, they said they’re used to such drama. We have requested a transfer, but they keep resisting.”

Admission After Media Intervention

It was only after media intervention that Abigael was finally admitted into the hospital for further care.

In a phone interview, hospital management acknowledged the situation and said action had been taken.

“We have now admitted her and doctors are handling the matter,” said Francis Olibe, a family friend who spoke after contacting hospital officials.
