The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has announced the full restoration of internet services across the country, effective today, Monday, January 26, 2026.
According to a public notice signed by the regulator, the lifting of restrictions comes after the successful completion of “necessary technical and security assessments.”
This move marks the end of a period of limited digital access that has affected various online platforms and services nationwide.
“The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) informs the General Public that internet services have been fully restored across the country, following successful completion of the necessary technical and security assessments,” UCC said on a public notice.

Citing the need to prevent electoral irregularities and protect public order during the election period, the Ugandan government announced a nationwide internet shutdown that affected all mobile data and satellite services prior to voting day.
On January 18, 2026, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) partially lifted the internet ban but mandated that social media and over-the-top (OTT) apps remain blocked until further notice.
The apps that were restricted included WhatsApp, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Telegram and app stores, with Facebook remaining suspended since 2021.
In their address to the public, the UCC expressed gratitude for the conduct of Ugandans during the connectivity hurdles.
“UCC sincerely appreciates the patience, cooperation and understanding shown during the period of limited internet access.”Also Read: Electoral Commission of Uganda Moves to Cancel Elections
