Share

DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa met with Cooperative Cabinet Secretary (CS) Wycliffe Oparanya days after hinting at working with him.

In a statement on January 28, Wamalwa said he was delighted to catch up with CS Oparanya, with whom he has worked closely in the past.

He added that he intends to continue collaborating with Oparanya in their efforts to promote the unity and prosperity of the Mulembe Nation and the greater Kenyan Nation.

“Delighted to catch up with my brother CS Oparanya with whom l have worked closely in the past and intend to continue working with in future,in our quest for the unity and prosperity of the Mulembe Nation and the greater Kenyan Nation.

Watch this space!” he said.

This comes barely a month after Oparanya declared his willingness to leave the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the interest of uniting the Western region.

“I want to say in front of you.

If the problem is having different parties, I am ready to leave ODM even now.

Let us come together because I know that we are a sleeping giant in this country,” Oparanya stated.

Wamalwa Signals Western Kenya Unity Push

Speaking during a public event in Trans Nzoia on Saturday, January 25, Wamalwa said collaboration among Western Kenya leaders is crucial in reinforcing unity through DAP and FORD Kenya, which he described as the only politically healthy parties in the region.

He emphasised that unity is necessary to ensure the region remains politically vibrant, especially ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 General Elections.

Wamalwa Clarifies Position

However, Wamalwa was clear that his engagement with Western Kenya leaders is focused on prioritising the region’s political interests and not on supporting President William Ruto.

“In this region, we have four parties, and when we look at the situation closely, some parties are being dissolved.

We were given a challenge by the two remaining parties, DAP and FORD Kenya,” Wamalwa said.

“We were given a challenge that Wetang’ula should look for me, and I look for Wetang’ula and also Musalia, as well as other leaders, so that we may plan strategies.

Instead of opposing each other, I’m ready to work with them so that we may support our people,” he added.

Wetangula Reveals Pro-Ruto Political Pact

During the same event, Speaker Wetang’ula disclosed that he is in the process of forming a political pact with Mudavadi and Co-operatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliff Oparanya to strengthen their support for President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I urge Wamalwa, with whom we have agreed to work together, to join his elder brothers in cementing Luhya unity behind President Ruto so that the community can realise its long-held dream of producing a President,” Wetang’ula said.

The development is expected to trigger political debate, particularly as it suggests a possible alignment between Wamalwa and key figures within President William Ruto’s administration.
