Mike Sonko’s Daughter Sandra Mbuvi Shifts From Kitusuru to Karura Ward for 2027 MCA Race

Sandra Mbuvi, popularly known as Thicky Sandra and daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has announced her intention to contest the Karura Ward MCA seat in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement dated September 26, Sandra Mbuvi said she will seek the seat on the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ticket.

“I am officially announcing my intention to run for MCA, Karura Ward, Westlands, in the 2027 General Election, under the National Economic Development Party (NEDP),” read part of the statement.

Her declaration marks a shift from her earlier plans to contest the Kitisuru Ward MCA seat. She said she had now turned her focus to Karura Ward, located in Westlands Constituency.

Sandra said she was looking forward to engaging with residents of Karura Ward, listening to their priorities and understanding the issues affecting the community.

“Having previously considered Kitusuru Ward, I have now shifted my focus to Karura Ward, where I look forward to engaging with residents, listening to their priorities and understanding the issues affecting our communities,” she said.

She said her areas of focus would include women’s empowerment, youth opportunities, education, healthcare, accountability and inclusive community development.

Sandra also said she viewed leadership as involving listening, service and accountability to the people.

Saumu Mbuvi Declares Bid for Nairobi Woman Representative Seat

Her announcement comes days after her sister, Saumu Mbuvi, announced her intention to contest the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat on the NEDP ticket.

Saumu said her decision to enter politics was informed by the need to translate the experiences and challenges faced by Nairobi residents into meaningful action.

She said Nairobi has significant potential but that many residents continue to face challenges requiring practical interventions.

“Our women need economic opportunities. Our young people need pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, skills and innovation. Our vulnerable families need stronger social protection,” Mbuvi said .

Saumu also called for leaders to listen to communities, engage with data and remain accountable beyond election campaigns and public appearances.

Mike Sonko’s daughter further said her proposed agenda would place women, young people and vulnerable families among her areas of focus.
