Mike Sonko’s Daughter Saumu Mbuvi Declares Bid for Nairobi Woman Representative Seat

Saumu Mbuvi, daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has announced her bid for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement dated September 21, Saumu said she will seek the seat on the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ticket, formally declaring her interest in the position.
She said she was offering herself for public service and described leadership as a responsibility and an opportunity to address challenges affecting Nairobi residents.
“Today, I make a deliberate decision to offer myself for public service as a candidate for Nairobi County Women Representative on the NEDP ticket.I am not stepping forward because leadership is a title. I am stepping forward because leadership is a responsibility, a covenant with the people, and an opportunity to turn lived realities into meaningful action,” Saumu stated.
Saumu Mbuvi Outlines Her Vision for Nairobi
Saumu said her decision to enter politics was informed by the need to translate the experiences and challenges faced by Nairobi residents into meaningful action.

She said Nairobi has significant potential but that many residents continue to face challenges requiring practical interventions.
“Our women need economic opportunities. Our young people need pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, skills and innovation. Our vulnerable families need stronger social protection,” Mbuvi said .
Saumu also called for leaders to listen to communities, engage with data and remain accountable beyond election campaigns and public appearances.
“ Our communities need leaders who listen, understand the data, engage honestly and remain accountable after the cameras are gone,”
Mike Sonko’s daughter further said her proposed agenda would place women, young people and vulnerable families among her areas of focus.
She said her proposed agenda would place women, young people and vulnerable families among her areas of focus, noting that women should have greater access to economic opportunities and that young people should be viewed as partners in shaping Nairobi’s future rather than simply as voters.
Youth Employment and Women’s Empowerment Take Priority
Her campaign messaging also highlights equal representation and opportunities for women.
“My vision is to contribute to a Nairobi where representation translates into results,” she said.

Saumu’s campaign agenda includes education and skills development, employment and enterprise, health and wellbeing, as well as a safer and more inclusive Nairobi.
She identified youth unemployment, entrepreneurship, skills development and social protection as issues requiring attention.
Her campaign is being promoted under the banner “A New Voice for a Brighter Nairobi”, alongside the message “Equal Voices. Real Opportunities. Lasting Change.”
