Three Kenya Defence Forces recruits died on January 29 during a scheduled training exercise at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
The recruits developed medical complications while participating in a routine endurance exercise, and were immediately treated by on-site medical personnel before being evacuated to Eldoret Regional Hospital for advanced care.
Despite efforts by attending medical teams, they were pronounced dead, the Kenya Defence Forces said.
The next of kin have been formally notified, and the military is providing support and assistance to the families of the deceased.
“KDF conveys its deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, fellow recruits and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time,” the statement said.
A military investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Findings will guide any measures necessary to improve the safety and welfare of personnel undergoing training, the KDF said.
“The Kenya Defence Forces remains committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, professionalism and care for all its personnel,” the statement added.
