The family of Busia-based fish trader Ahmed Ibrahim Mohamed is demanding answers from the government following his mysterious disappearance shortly after he was reportedly removed from a bus at a police roadblock in Korinda, Busia County.
Mohamed, 35, has been missing for more than a week, with his relatives saying they have received no clear communication from security agencies regarding his whereabouts.
According to the family, Ibrahim was traveling by bus when it was stopped at the Korinda police roadblock, near the prison.
He was allegedly asked to step out of the vehicle by individuals who identified themselves as officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“Ahmed was in the bus and after travelling for 30 minutes, the bus stopped, and he was asked to alight by people who identified themselves as DCI officers there in Korinda, next to the prison. There were two male and two female officers,” Ahmed’s brother said.
The family says that was the last time he was seen.
Ibrahim Mohamed is said to have been carrying $136,000 in cash (approximately Ksh 17 million) at the time of his arrest.
The money was reportedly in a bag he carried with him when he was ordered to alight from the bus.
A family member claimed the bus conductor confirmed that anti-terror officers were involved.
“Here, we’re being told they have no news, yet the bus conductor has confirmed that the Anti-Terror are the ones who ordered him to alight till they asked him to carry his bag, which carried money. Money isn’t a problem, we just want to see him alive and okay within 24 hours.”
Despite reporting the matter at Busia Police Station, the family says the response from authorities has been slow, deepening their distress and uncertainty.

Relatives and friends have strongly dismissed any claims linking Ibrahim to criminal or terror-related activities.
“Ahmed is one of Busia’s businessmen; he is not a stranger, he’s lived here, he’s got all his money here, he’s not someone who’s Al-Shabaab as being suspected,” another relative said.
They insist he is a well-known businessman in Busia town with established investments and no history of involvement in illegal dealings.
The family says they have sought help from various offices in Busia and Kakamega without success.
“We have walked all the offices from Busia to Kakamega, the head in Kakamega Issa, refused to meet us or talk to us,” a brother claimed.
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has since taken up the matter, calling on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to compel DCI officers allegedly involved in the incident to account for Mohamed’s whereabouts.
“Whoever has the right to arrest is the police, not regular citizens, so we have to be told who did the arrest and where our person is,” Omtatah said.
The senator also urged Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen to personally intervene and ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.
Busia Acting Police Commander Yunia Onyancha has stated that the police require more time to verify the family’s claims as investigations continue.
However, seven days after the businessman’s disappearance, his family maintains they are still in the dark anxiously waiting for answers and hoping for his safe return.
