Mike Sonko and Governor Wamatangi Among Politicians Facing Court Cases This Week

Several high-profile politicians and public officials are scheduled to appear in court this week as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) intensifies its crackdown on corruption and recovery of public assets.

The matters, set for hearing and mention between February 2 and 6, 2026, will be handled across various courts, including the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, Milimani Law Courts, and other stations in Nyandarua, Nyeri, Mombasa and Lodwar.

The series of cases below highlights the Commission’s continued efforts to pursue accountability, recover public funds and safeguard public assets.

Sonko to Face Conflict of Interest Charges

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Kioko Sonko is among the prominent figures expected in court this week.

Sonko and another individual are facing conflict of interest charges linked to the award of a contract for revenue collection services for the Nairobi City County Government.

The case will be heard at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court from February 3 to 5, 2026.

Governor Wamatangi in KSh813 Million Recovery Suit

Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi is also scheduled to appear in court for mention of a suit seeking recovery of Ksh 813 million, alleged to be proceeds of corruption.

The case will be mentioned on February 4, 2026, at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.

Kisumu City Manager to Take Plea

Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga is set for plea-taking on February 6, 2026.

The inquiry revolves around allegations that he fraudulently facilitated the travel of an individual, Conslate Achieng, to Nigeria for a Clean Air Forum despite her not being an employee of Kisumu County.

The case also touches on alleged irregularities surrounding his recruitment as Acting Kisumu City Manager in 2020.

NSSF and Procurement-Related Charges

Former NSSF Head of Procurement George Mwazighe Mwandembo and three others will face conflict of interest charges over the award of a Ksh 47.7 million tender for the supply and installation of bulk filers to Beldavo Enterprises.

The matter will be heard on February 4th at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.

In a separate case, former senior Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers William Waweru Maina and another are charged with willful failure to comply with procurement laws in the purchase of uniform dress materials worth Ksh 11.5 million.

Fraud and Forgery Case at CRA

Jecinter Adoyo Hezron is facing charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property amounting to Ksh 15 million and forgery of academic certificates to secure employment at the Commission on Revenue Allocation as a Senior Analyst.

The hearing will run from February 2 to 5 at Milimani Law Courts.

Recovery of Public Funds and Assets

The Commission is also pursuing several civil recovery and preservation suits.

In one case, Drescoll Limited and others are facing a suit for recovery of Ksh 58 million paid by Isiolo County Government for a fire engine allegedly procured in breach of procurement rules.

The EACC is further seeking recovery of Ksh 33 million said to have been paid above market value.

In another major matter, Stephen Lowoton and another are facing a preservation suit over Ksh 696.1 million held in various accounts, linked to alleged embezzlement of Ksh 1.2 billion belonging to the Turkana County Government.

Additionally, Silvan Onyango Ogoda and others are subject to a recovery suit seeking Ksh 43.1 million allegedly irregularly paid from Kasarani CDF and PMC accounts.

Public Land Recovery Cases

The EACC is also pursuing recovery of public land in different parts of the country.

Midlands Ltd faces a suit in Nyandarua over Land Parcel No. Nyandarua/Njabini/5852.

In Mombasa, Kensko Agro Produce Limited and four others are accused of illegally acquiring public land reserved for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.

Meanwhile, Samuel Kimondo is facing a recovery suit over Nyeri Municipality/Block I/1282, alleged to have been hived off from a government house.

Turkana Treasury Case

Former District Accountant Elias Tirop Tomno will appear before the Lodwar Law Court on February 2 over charges of conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption related to alleged financial mismanagement at the Turkana District Treasury.
