NYOTA Programme Expansions

Under the programme, eligible youth receive a start-up grant of Ksh 50,000, typically disbursed in two tranches of Ksh 25,000. A portion of the grant (Ksh 3,000) is automatically deposited into the NSSF Haba Haba savings scheme to promote a savings culture among beneficiaries.

The programme targets youth aged 18 to 29 years, with the age limit extended to 35 years for persons with disabilities, who have a Form Four education level or below.

President William Ruto recently announced expansions and additional components under the NYOTA programme.

Speaking on January 29 in Kisii County, the President unveiled a targeted initiative aimed at 90,000 youths who did not complete formal education or lack employable skills.

The programme provides support for practical skills training, valued at Ksh 36,000, alongside hands-on experience, mentorship, and a monthly stipend of Ksh 6,000 during the training period.

The initiative is linked to the on-the-job experience (OJE) and employability component, which has been introduced as a new extension of the NYOTA programme to support unskilled and unemployed youth.
