How DCI Recovered a High-End Unregistered Mercedes-Benz

Share

The Kenyan detectives have managed to track down a Mercedes-Benz GLE350D that had gone missing from a garage in the Spring Valley area of Nairobi, an incident that led to a manhunt that ended with a chase along Mombasa Road.

This incident ignited a multi-agency investigation which ended with an action-packed pursuit on Mombasa Road.

The recovery followed coordinated efforts by officers drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Nairobi Region, Gigiri, and Imbirikani Police Station.

The luxury vehicle had been left at the garage for routine work.

On January 30, 2026, the vehicle had been booked into the garage to have a paint job done, however, almost immediately after, the vehicle disappeared from a Spring Valley garage in Nairobi without any trace.

Furthermore, during the same time as the vehicle’s disappearance, the detectives stated that “the watchman guarding the garage also went missing.

The police found that the watchman’s cell phone was turned off, which raised a lot of suspicion.

Police described the car as a “high-end, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLE350d,” a detail that complicated early tracking efforts but did not deter detectives from intensifying their search.

Forensic Trail Leads to Mombasa Road

Investigators say the breakthrough came after “painstaking forensic trails” helped them trace the stolen Benz as it moved through Nairobi’s transport corridors.

Detectives eventually “pinpointed the Benz cruising along the busy Mombasa Road,” prompting an immediate response to intercept it.

Coordination among multiple officers was established to locate and stop any means of escape by setting up officers to block all potential escape routes.

The chase ended at “a police roadblock mounted by Imbirikani officers in Kajiado South Sub-County,” where officers moved in to stop and verify the vehicle.

Suspects Flee Into Thickets

As police closed in, the occupants chose flight over surrender.

Authorities reported that “the occupants opted for the coward’s escape,” abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

Officers watched as the suspects “melted into nearby thickets, disappearing towards Oltiasika and Nosilale villages,” frustrating immediate arrest efforts.

Despite the escape, detectives confirmed that the interception was a success.

A detailed inspection established that the recovered vehicle “matched the description of a stolen vehicle earlier reported,” although it had been altered to avoid detection.

Fake Plates Exposed, Investigations Continue

Police discovered that the Benz had been tampered with, noting that “a fake front registration plate, KDR 003N, had been fitted to beat detection.”

The vehicle was then “seized and escorted back to Nairobi” for further forensic examination.

Investigators say the hunt is far from over.

With leads now narrowed, officers remain “hot on the trail of the elusive suspects,” vowing to trace and prosecute those behind the theft as inquiries continue.
