Cameroon’s President’s Daughter Ask Citizens Not to Vote for Him

Brenda Biya, the daughter of Cameroon’s long-serving president Paul Biya, has publicly called on Cameroonians not to re-elect her father in the country’s October 2025 polls.

Speaking during a TikTok live session, Brenda, popular online under the name King Nasty, accused her father of presiding over decades of poverty, unemployment, and stagnation.

“Do not vote for my father. He has kept Cameroon in the same place for over 40 years,” she told her followers.

Paul Biya, now 92, has ruled Cameroon since 1982, making him one of the world’s longest-serving leaders.

His more than four-decade tenure has drawn criticism both locally and internationally, with recurring allegations of authoritarianism, corruption, and electoral manipulation.

What Her Words Mean for Cameroon

Brenda’s comments mark an unprecedented moment in African politics, since it is the first time a sitting president’s child has openly opposed their parent’s leadership and gone as far as discouraging citizens from voting for them.

While her remarks struck a chord with many young Cameroonians frustrated by economic hardship, they also sparked questions about her own position.

Critics argue that Brenda, who lives abroad in relative luxury, may not fully reflect the lived realities of ordinary citizens struggling daily with the consequences of her father’s rule.

Others see her stance as evidence of long-standing personal tensions within the presidential family.

Biya Plan Remains Uknown

Still, the symbolic weight of her message cannot be ignored. Coming months before a high-stakes election, her remarks could further energize opposition voices in a nation where dissent has often been tightly controlled.

President Biya, who has not indicated whether he will actively campaign or step down, faces mounting pressure as Cameroonians prepare to head to the polls.

For many, Brenda’s intervention adds another layer of uncertainty to an already volatile political climate.

Whether her appeal will influence the vote remains to be seen, but it has already ignited debate across Cameroon and beyond.

For the first time, the leader’s own family is publicly questioning his rule, an unusual development in African political history.
