Billboard and Wayleave Owners Face Demolition Threat in KeNHA 14-Day Notice

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has notified all advertisers of Bill Boards, Directional Signs, and Utility Wayleave owners, who have legal approvals, to pay for their annual renewal fees and settle any outstanding arrears as per the permit requirements.

In a statement on February 10, KeNHA Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli said the payment must be made within 14 days from the date of this notice.

Kimeli stated that all renewals should be processed through the KeNHA Online Permit Portal.

“This payment should be made within 14 days from the date of this notice. All renewals shall be processed through the KeNHA Online Permit Portal link: https://permits.kenha.co.ke:7080,” KeNHA said.

KeNHA Threatens to Act

Kimeli said enforcement action will follow after the expiry of the given period on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

He added that the measures will include demolition of the structures and recovery of all related costs without further reference to the owners or their agents.

“At the expiry of this period, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, enforcement action will follow, including the demolition of the structures and the recovery of all related costs, without further reference to the owners or agents,” he said.

According to KeNHA, any firm or individual wishing to use the services of the erected Billboards or Utility Wayleave should first verify the compliance status of the service provider.

They can do this by forwarding copies of the service provider’s valid permits to rsd@kenha.co.ke for verification.

“Any firm/individual who wishes to utilize the services of the erected Bill Boards or Utility Wayleave should undertake due diligence on the compliance status of the service provider by forwarding copies of their (service providers’) valid permits to the rsd@kenha.co.ke for verification.”
