Nyeri police officers have arrested a 32-year old man with 292 mobile phones and 4 laptops in a crackdown on electronic theft.
The police officers launched a search after intelligent reports exposed a shop in Nyeri township being used to trade stolen and snatched mobile phones and laptops.
On September 19, 2025, Nyeri Officer Commanding Station (OCS) issued a directive to Nyeri police officers to raid a shop within Nyeri Township believed to be a hub of ferrying stolen electronic goods from the public.
“Upon searching the property, the officers recovered 292 used mobile phones and four laptops. The suspect was arrested after failing to provide a satisfactory account of how he had acquired the items,” said police officers.
Suspect was escorted to Nyeri Police Station, where he was formally booked and is currently being held in custody as detectives proceed with further investigations. Suspect will be arraigned in court.
Police have highlighted that a detailed launch of all recovered items has been compiled together. Efforts are now actively underway to trace and identify the legitimate owners of the devices.
Efforts are underway to identify the right owners of the stolen electronic goods that has been recovered.
“An inventory of the recovered items has been made, and efforts are underway to identify their rightful owners,” said police officers.
The National Police Service has publicly announced that both the vigilance of the local community which provided the most crucial information and fully involved in their actions.
According to National Police official communication, the service assured the public of its relentless commitment to continue with major crackdowns on criminal enterprises operating within the country.
Additionally, the National Police has urged the public to continue supporting police efforts by timely reporting any incidents of theft or suspicious activities.
