According to KeNHA, the closure is necessary to facilitate surface dressing works along the road section.

The Authority stated that the maintenance will be implemented in phases to minimise disruption.

During the construction period, traffic will be diverted to the remaining lanes or to available service roads.

Motorists have been urged to follow the designated diversion routes that will be set up at each work zone.

KeNHA further advised drivers to approach the affected areas with caution and to adhere to instructions from traffic police officers and marshals on site.

For inquiries or further clarification, members of the public were directed by the Authority to contact them via email at complaints@kenha.co.ke, through its official X account @KeNHAKenya, or by calling the toll-free line 0800-211-244.

Alternative Routes Motorists Can Use

The A8 Road, also known as the Nairobi–Nakuru–Eldoret Highway, is one of Kenya’s most critical transport corridors.

It connects Nairobi to the western corridor, serving as a gateway to major towns like Nakuru, Eldoret, and ultimately Uganda. This makes it vital for trade, logistics, and regional integration.

The section between James Gichuru and Rironi is part of the Nairobi expressway expansion, designed to ease traffic congestion and improve mobility in and out of the city.

Currently, the James Gichuru-Rironi section is being expanded into a 6-lane dual carriageway to address decades of chronic congestion.

With the closure, motorists heading into Nairobi can use the service lanes along Waiyaki Way during the closure. Those travelling to Nakuru, Eldoret, or beyond are advised to use the Southern Bypass, which reconnects with the highway further out and helps avoid traffic in the city.

Local commuters may use feeder roads through Uthiru and Dagoretti. Drivers moving between Westlands, Lavington, and Kilimani can use the James Gichuru–Gitanga Road as an alternative route.
