The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has appointed Eng. Luka Kipchumba Kimeli as its new Director General, effective February 17, 2026.
In a communication to staff dated February 18, 2026, the Authority confirmed that the appointment was made by the Board of Directors in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Roads and Transport.
According to the notice, the appointment follows a competitive and transparent recruitment process conducted in accordance with the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, and relevant public service procedures.
“The Board of Directors of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), acting in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport, is pleased to announce the appointment of Eng. Luka Kipchumba Kimeli as the Director General with effect from February 17, 2026,” the communication read.
Eng. Kimeli brings 27 years of distinguished experience in infrastructure development, strategic programme delivery, and public sector leadership within the roads sub-sector.
His extensive background is expected to strengthen the Authority’s mandate of developing and managing the national trunk road network, a critical pillar in Kenya’s economic growth and regional connectivity.

The KeNHA Board expressed full confidence in Eng. Kimeli’s leadership and ability to steer the institution towards greater efficiency and accountability.
“The Board expresses full confidence in Eng. Kimeli’s capacity to steer the Authority towards greater efficiency, accountability, and service excellence in delivering safe, resilient, and world-class highway infrastructure that supports national growth and regional integration,” the statement added.

The Board also congratulated him on his appointment and assured him of its full support as he assumes office.
Eng. Kimeli takes over at a time when infrastructure development remains central to Kenya’s economic transformation agenda, with KeNHA playing a key role in the expansion, maintenance, and modernization of the country’s highway network.
