The Runda Association has dismissed allegations circulating online that motorists are being compelled to pay to access a road reportedly situated within the upscale Runda neighbourhood.
This follows the circulation of a viral video online claiming that residents were being asked to pay to use a public road described by online commentators as part of Runda Estate.
The claims have generated debate and confusion among residents and the general public.
In a statement released Saturday, February 28, the association categorically rejected the assertions, maintaining that it neither imposes road access levies nor sanctions the collection of any fees on public roads within its mandate.
“The road referenced in these reports, commonly known as Palm Valley Road, is not located within Runda Estate and does not fall under the governance, management, or authority of Runda Estate or its residents’ association,” the statement said.
According to the association, the roadway at the centre of the controversy is situated in neighbouring Kiambu County and is administratively distinct from Runda Estate.
Officials clarified that the area falls under a separate residents’ body known as the Palm North Estate Residents Association, which operates independently.

The association emphasized that it has no operational, legal or administrative control over the said road and is not involved in any restrictions, charges or disputes concerning access.
Runda officials noted that confusion may have arisen due to the proximity of adjacent developments, some of which are informally associated with the Runda name despite lying outside its official boundaries.
“Members of the public are encouraged to confirm the correct location and jurisdiction before sharing or reposting information online,” the statement added.

Separately, Fiu Nifiu, the Member of County Assembly for Karura Ward, also addressed the matter, reiterating that no public road within Greater Runda under Nairobi City County authority has been blocked or subjected to toll charges.
He further clarified that the contested road lies within Kiambu County’s administrative control.
“Accordingly, any matters relating to the said road should be directed to the relevant authorities within Kiambu Municipality,” the MCA said.
