President William Ruto has directed Shauri Moyo Estate, the largest estate in Nairobi to be renamed Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate.

While speaking at the funeral service of the late Emurua Dikirr MP and five other victims who perished in the helicopter crash, President William Ruto said the directive was in line with the recommendations of the Affordable Housing Committee, in recognition of the legislator’s contributions as the chair of the committee.

“These committee members have proposed that, because Johana Ngeno was the chairman who ensured we succeeded in housing matters, something we had tried to achieve for thirty years without success but have now finally accomplished, they recommend that one of the biggest estates in Nairobi, which has 4,500 houses and is called Shauri Moyo, be renamed,” said President Ruto.

President William Ruto described Johanna Ng’eno as a unique leader who played a key role in the establishment of Emurua Dikirr Constituency, noting that his contribution made his name inseparable from the area’s history.

The Head of State said Johanna Ng’eno had been vocal on several issues, including the compensation of people evicted from the Mau Forest and the Angata Baragoi land dispute that had led to clashes between two communities. The President noted that the matter has since been resolved.

At the same time, President Ruto donated Ksh 8 million to the families of the victims who died alongside Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, directing that each family receive Ksh 2 million.
