Lake Basin Development Authority Denies Personal Ties to Irungu Nyakera

Share

The Lake Basin Development Authority has released an official statement clarifying the ongoing dispute between them and Fairways Hospitality Kisumu, stating that the relationship between the two was strictly a commercial landlord-tenant issue.

According to LBDA, the property in question was leased to Fairways Hospitality Kisumu Ltd under a formal agreement in 2019.

LBDA says Fairways defaulted on rent payments, accumulating arrears now at 25,900,0000 despite a consent agreement acknowledging the debt and structured repayment terms.

The lease, LBDA says, was lawfully terminated on February 12, 2026, following notices that were served in line with both the lease requirements and a High Court ruling.

LBDA also emphasised that it has no contractual relationship with Irungu Nyakera personally, disputing assertions linking him legally to the lease or to management of the property

LBDA condemned what it termed the reckless and unlawful use of firearms and warned against attempts to frame the conflict in ethnic or political terms.

Irungu Nyakera allegedly fired shots at the premises and LBDA is condemning the act and urging members of the public to remain calm and leave the matter to the police.

The statement reinforces the authority’s commitment to recovering public funds through established legal channels and according to court instructions

However, LBDA says its focus remains on the rule of law, urging both parties to pursue remedies through the courts and warns against words that escalate tensions or undermine investor confidence in Kenya’s business environment.

LBDA said that any disputes taking place on the premises should be resolved through legal channels and that they will continue safeguarding public resources in the interest of the public.
