Ruto Gives Ksh 5M to Kapsabet School for the Deaf After Students Fall Into Septic Tank

President William Ruto has pledged Ksh 5 million to support Kapsabet School for the Deaf following the septic tank collapse that left one student dead and several others injured.

One student has died following a tragic incident at Kapsabet School for the Deaf, where a septic tank collapsed while several pupils were standing on top of it.

At least 10 children had reportedly gathered in the area, hoping to see the motorcade of President William Ruto as it passed en route to Kapsabet Girls High School.

The slab covering the septic tank suddenly caved in, causing the pupils to fall inside and prompting an urgent rescue effort involving teachers, police officers, local residents and county disaster response teams.

A total of eleven pupils were pulled out and rushed to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital for treatment, with two of them said to be in critical condition.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 12,  within the school compound, sending shock and panic among students, teachers, and nearby residents.

Emergency responders and local authorities rushed to the scene soon after the incident was reported. Rescue teams are currently conducting an operation to retrieve the learners and determine whether there are any survivors.

Witnesses at the school said the incident caused panic among learners and staff as rescue teams rushed to the scene. Some residents from nearby areas also responded after hearing distress calls from the school compound.

Rescue Operation Underway

Rescue teams continued working at the site as authorities attempted to retrieve the learners from the septic tank. Police officers and emergency personnel secured the area to allow the operation to proceed without interference.

“This is a tragic incident and our teams are on the ground carrying out rescue operations as we work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding what happened.” A officer said.

Residents and parents gathered outside the school as the rescue mission progressed, with many seeking information about the affected learners. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm as the situation continues to unfold.

Authorities Begin Investigations

Officials said investigations have begun to determine how the septic tank was accessed and whether safety measures were in place within the school compound.

“We will conduct thorough investigations to understand what led to this incident and ensure appropriate action is taken.” A local administrator said.

Authorities are expected to release more details as the rescue operation continues and the situation becomes clearer.
