Kenyan doctors based in the United Kingdom have voiced concern over the reported detention of veteran Kenyan doctor Dr Job Obwaka, urging authorities in Kenya to ensure that the rule of law and due process are fully respected.
In a statement released on March 16, 2026, the group Kenyan Doctors UK (KDUK) said the detention had raised serious concerns within the medical community.
The doctors said they remain committed to ethical standards, justice and the protection of rights in the societies where they serve.
“We, Kenyan Doctors in the UK, express our deep concern regarding the reported detention of Dr Job Obwaka, a respected veteran doctor and colleague in Kenya,” the statement read.
They added that any actions perceived to undermine the rule of law could erode trust within the medical profession and the wider public.
“As medical professionals, we are bound not only by our commitment to patient care but also by our duty to uphold ethical standards, justice, and the rule of law in the societies we serve.”

The organization urged relevant Kenyan authorities to strictly follow legal procedures in handling the matter.
“We therefore strongly urge the relevant authorities in Kenya to ensure that the rule of law is strictly followed and that due process is fully observed in this matter,” the statement said.
The doctors stressed that transparency and accountability are crucial for maintaining confidence in national institutions.
“Transparency, accountability, and adherence to constitutional protections are essential to maintaining public trust in national institutions.”
The UK-based doctors also expressed solidarity with medical professionals in Kenya and specifically mentioned Dr Chris Obwaka, who is a member of their organization.

“We stand in solidarity with our colleagues in Kenya and, in particular, Dr Chris Obwaka, who is a member of our organisation in the United Kingdom, and call for clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding Dr Job Obwaka’s detention.”
KDUK said it hopes the issue will be resolved quickly and in accordance with the law, reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to democratic principles.
“Our hope is that this matter will be addressed promptly and lawfully, in a manner that reinforces confidence in Kenya’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law.”
