The director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Joseph Kent, has resigned, citing opposition to the United States’ ongoing war in Iran and raising concerns about the rationale behind the conflict.
In a resignation letter addressed to President Donald Trump, Kent said he could not “in good conscience” support the war, arguing that Iran posed no imminent threat to the United States.
He further alleged that the decision to engage in the conflict was influenced by external pressure and misinformation that misrepresented the situation on the ground.
Kent, a veteran who served multiple combat tours, also referenced his personal loss, saying he could not support sending more Americans into a war that he believes does not serve national interests.

Kent Warns Trump and US
According to him, “high-ranking officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign… to encourage a war with Iran,” misleading leadership into believing there was a clear and urgent threat.
He warned that the situation mirrors past conflicts, saying, “This was a lie and is the same tactic… used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq war.”
The outgoing director also pointed to his personal experiences, including multiple combat deployments and the loss of his wife in war, as shaping his position. “As a veteran who deployed to combat 11 times and as a Gold Star husband… I cannot support sending the next generation off to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people,” he wrote.

Kent Advices Trump To Reconsider War
Kent urged the president to reconsider the current course, emphasizing the long-term consequences of continued military engagement.
“You can reverse course and chart a new path for our nation, or you can allow us to slip further toward decline and chaos. You hold the cards,” he stated.
His resignation marks a significant moment within the administration, as it signals dissent from a senior intelligence official over U.S. foreign policy.
