Kenya has indicated its commitment to the development of modern, technology-based border management systems as the country’s top officials attended a high-level international aviation forum in London.

The development is an aspect of the country’s overall strategy aimed at promoting national security, as well as efficiency in international air travel and commerce.

While addressing the Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference 2026, Kenya’s Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, indicated the country’s commitment to the development of modern, technology-based border management systems that align with the best practices in the world.

The forum, which brought together various stakeholders in the aviation industry, including governments, airlines, airports, and technology providers, aimed at addressing the future of air travel as well as border management systems.

While addressing the forum, the Cabinet Secretary indicated the country’s commitment to developing modern, technology-based border management systems that not only enhance national security but also efficiency in international air travel.

“We are building secure, efficient, and technology-driven border management systems that safeguard our country while facilitating global connectivity, trade, and tourism,” Murkomen stated.

Global Forum Highlights Emerging Aviation Trends

The conference in London provided an opportunity for the stakeholders to engage in an in-depth discussion regarding the cutting-edge technology that is transforming the aviation industry as well as border control systems.

According to Murkomen, the conference mainly focused on the integration of technology to enhance both security and ease of use.

“Today in London, I attended the Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference 2026, the global forum where governments, airports, airlines, aviation authorities, and technology innovators from across the globe gather to share ideas on the future of aviation,” he said.

The conference also touched on the aspect of how the technology, including biometric identification systems, may be able to redefine the way people move across the globe.

The technology, in particular, focuses on the need to reduce congestion in the airport while ensuring that the security level remains high.

“The discussions explored the emerging trends shaping the future of aviation, digital border management, and international travel facilitation, with a strong focus on how technology can strengthen security while improving passenger experience and efficiency at borders,” he said.

Kenya’s Digital Transformation Agenda Gains Momentum

Kenya’s participation is part of the overall strategy to ensure that the country is at the forefront in terms of digital transformation in various sectors, especially aviation and border control.

The government is keen on investing in intelligent systems that not only help in detecting potential threats but also facilitate smooth flow at border points.

The importance of such international engagements was also highlighted by Murkomen, citing that they are essential in measuring Kenya’s progress as well as finding opportunities to partner with global industry leaders.

“These engagements are critical as Kenya continues to modernise its border management architecture, enhance national security through intelligent border management systems, and advance our digital transformation agenda across the aviation ecosystem,” he said.

The government’s strategy is part of the overall reforms that are being put in place to ensure that Kenya is a regional aviation hub.

High-Level Engagements with Industry Leaders

During the conference, Kenyan delegates engaged with top executives from leading global technology firms specializing in aviation and border solutions.

These interactions are expected to inform future partnerships and investments in Kenya’s aviation infrastructure.

“During the engagements, we were received and hosted by David Lavorel, SITA’s Chief Executive Officer, and Pedro Alves, Senior Vice President – Borders, alongside other global industry leaders,” Murkomen revealed.

The involvement of key players, including David Lavorel, highlights the need for cooperation between governments and the private sector in the development of the next generation in aviation.
