Kericho Building Collapse: 22 Rescued, Emergency Response Intensifies

Share

Several construction workers are feared trapped after a building under construction in the Kaptebeswet Bypass area of Kericho County collapsed.

Emergency response teams, including the Kenya Red Cross, county firefighters, and volunteers, rushed to the scene to conduct urgent search and rescue operations.

The collapse involved approximately 10 people inside the building at the time, with four individuals rescued alive and receiving medical attention. Two workers reportedly managed to escape by jumping from the unstable structure before it fully caved in.

“Rescue operations are ongoing following the collapse. Our teams are on site working tirelessly to save lives.” Kenya Red Cross said in its latest update.

Witnesses have described the chaotic scene as concrete slabs gave way, sending clouds of dust and debris into the air.

Rescue Efforts Intensify

Rescue crews are using heavy machinery, sniffer dogs and specialized equipment to carefully remove debris while ensuring the structure does not collapse further.

County firefighters, volunteers and Kenya Red Cross personnel are coordinating to reach areas that are difficult to access. Local residents have also assisted by guiding teams and providing information about workers who were inside the building.

Emergency responders continue to search systematically, working in shifts to maintain momentum and safety. Officials emphasize that the number of people still trapped remains unclear and the search is ongoing.

The atmosphere at the site is tense as families wait anxiously for updates, hoping for the safe recovery of all those involved.
