The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has unveiled a new system aimed at simplifying the annual income tax filing process for salaried Kenyans.
In messages sent to employees across the country on Thursday, March 19, the Authority announced the rollout of a pre-filled return system that automatically captures key employment income details, reducing the manual effort required during filing.
“Dear xxxx, Good news! KRA has made filing your return easier by pre-filling your employment income details. To file, follow the simple guide,” reads part of the SMS sent to taxpayers.
According to KRA, taxpayers logging into the iTax platform will now find crucial sections, particularly employment income, already populated.
Users are only required to review the details for accuracy before submitting their returns.
This move is expected to minimize errors and speed up the filing process, especially for individuals who earn income solely through employment.

KRA has encouraged taxpayers who may encounter challenges to seek assistance through its customer support channels or visit the nearest tax service office.
“If you need support, call 0711 099 999 or visit your nearest KRA office. We are at your service and happy to support,” the Authority stated.
The introduction of the pre-filled system comes as KRA ramps up efforts to improve compliance among taxpayers ahead of the June 30 filing deadline.
By simplifying the process, the Authority hopes to encourage more Kenyans to file their returns accurately and on time.
