Share

The Kenya National Highways Authority has issued a public advisory to motorists on a major traffic disruption along the Kitale-Morpus Road, which has been caused by the cutoff of a major section along this highway that has been rendered unsafe for driving.

This public advisory, which was issued on March 22, 2026, indicates that there are major issues to be addressed regarding the safety of motorists driving along this highway.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that the Chapareria-Morpus section, approximately 1 km from Morpus along the Kitale-Morpus Road, has been cut off, rendering traffic flow between the Chapareria and Sebit sections towards Lodwar unsafe for motorable traffic.”

Kenya National Highways Authority has noted that this has effectively brought driving to a complete halt between major points along this highway, which has brought concern to both private and commercial motorists who use this highway to connect various regions across the country.

“Motorists are strongly advised to exercise caution and strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site to ensure their safety.”

Alternative Routes and Safety Measures

In response to the disruption, KeNHA has directed motorists to adopt safer alternative routes to minimize inconvenience and prevent accidents.

The advisory specifically points out to road users traveling from Lodwar to consider a different corridor to reach their destinations.

“Motorists plying the route from Lodwar are advised to use the Marich Pass–Nakuru route as an alternative.”

The authority further noted that efforts are already underway to address the situation and restore normal traffic flow along the affected section.

However, no specific timeline has been provided regarding the completion of the repair works.

“KeNHA is currently working to restore passage in the affected area, and motorists are urged to exercise patience.”

Ongoing Restoration Efforts

KeNHA assured the public that they are committed to addressing the disruption as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety of all road users.

“The Authority appreciates your cooperation as it works to ensure the safety of all road users.”

The disruption is likely to have a ripple effect on other activities in the regions that rely on the Kitale-Morpuss road corridor for the movement of goods and services.

Motorists and other stakeholders are called upon to be watchful and plan their movements accordingly as restoration efforts are underway.
