The United States President Donald J. Trump has announced a temporary suspension of the planned military strikes, which were targeting Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, following what he described as “very good and productive conversations” between Washington and Tehran over the past two days.
In a statement released on March 23, 2026, Trump said the decision to postpone the strikes for five days was intended to allow ongoing diplomatic discussions aimed at achieving what he termed a “complete and total resolution” of hostilities in the Middle East.
The postponement, he noted, depends on the progress of the talks expected to continue throughout the week.
According to the public announcement, President Trump instructed the U.S. defense leadership to stop any immediate military action against Iran’s energy facilities as negotiations continue.

The planned strikes had been part of the escalating tensions linked to the ongoing regional conflict and earlier warnings issued by the US government regarding security threats and disruptions to strategic shipping routes.
This development follows heightened fears of retaliation after Iranian officials warned that attacks on their infrastructure would prompt counter-strikes targeting U.S. interests and allied facilities in the Gulf region.
Trump makes this decision amid continuing efforts by international entities to prevent further destabilization across the Middle East region, where weeks of conflict have already affected energy markets and raised global security concerns.

While the temporary pause does not signal a permanent shift in U.S. military posture, it reflects a cautious step toward dialogue as both sides explore options for de-escalation. Further decisions are expected once the current round of discussions concludes later this week.
