The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Nakuru Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO) officer over alleged bribery.
In a statement dated Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the Commission said the suspect, Leonard Cheruiyot Mutai, a Leak Detection Officer, was apprehended on March 23 following a complaint from a member of the public.
The complainant alleged that the officer had demanded Ksh 15,000 to facilitate the replacement of a confiscated water meter in Langa Langa Estate.
“Acting on the complaint, EACC conducted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect while receiving the bribe,” the Commission said.
During the operation, investigators recovered Ksh 15,000 from the suspect, Ksh 100,000 hidden in socks, and an additional Ksh 18,000 from his coat pocket.
The suspect was taken to the Commission’s South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing before being detained at Central Police Station.
He was later released on a police cash bail of Ksh 20,000 pending the conclusion of investigations.
The EACC has urged members of the public to continue reporting corruption and to stand firm against bribery.

The arrest comes just days after a similar anti-corruption operation in Mombasa, where EACC officers apprehended a court assistant over bribery allegations.
The suspect, Ben Wambua Muthoka, was accused of soliciting a bribe from a complainant in exchange for concealing a court file to frustrate an ongoing criminal case.

According to the Commission, the suspect initially demanded Ksh 10,000, which was later reduced to Ksh 7,000 after negotiations captured in a recorded conversation.
“The matter was investigated, and on 17 March 2026, EACC officers in Mombasa interviewed the complainant and recorded his statement.
Following persistent demands, the complainant, under the guidance of investigators, engaged the suspect in a recorded conversation, during which the bribe demand was confirmed and later reduced to Ksh7,000,” said the Commission.
EACC officers arrested him after the complainant, acting under investigators’ guidance, handed over the money during a monitored operation. The cash was recovered at the scene.
He was processed at the Commission’s Lower Coast Regional Office and later released on a police bond of Ksh 20,000 pending further action.
The EACC has urged members of the public to continue reporting corruption and to stand firm against bribery.
