The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) secured a life sentence against a 72-year-old man in Kakamega County for defiling a minor.
According to court records, the landmark judgment came at the Kakamega Law Courts on 19th March 2026. Andobe Sablah Aukhuma received life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old Grade Four girl in the Providence area of Lurambi Sub-County.
Moreover, the victim suffered immense emotional trauma and contracted a sexually transmitted disease, intensifying the severity of the offence.
The case was prosecuted under Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act, 2006. The DPP’s office was represented by Prosecution Counsels Ian Makotsi and Stellah Adeny, who presented compelling evidence that led to the conviction.
“The court has sent a clear message that sexual offences against minors will attract the highest penalties under the law.” Said Prosecution Counsel Ian Makotsi.
In a related case, the DPP secured convictions against two adult males, Patrick Bakari (37) and Godfrey Esalaba, both residents of Emakaka Sublocation in Kakamega Central.
The court found the pair guilty of defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl, sentencing each to 20 years’ imprisonment.
