The country’s political scene has been rocked several times following the death of elected representatives since the General Election in 2022.
Politicians, parliamentarians, and members of County Assemblies have passed away due to various reasons, including illness and accident.
The death of politicians has not only caused a vacuum in the respective positions but has also impacted the constituents who have been represented by the politicians.
One of the first politicians to pass away was William Chepkut, a former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament.
The politician passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
According to the politician’s family, he passed away at his home in Nairobi.
His lifeless body was then rushed to Mediheal Hospital in Parklands, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The politician’s health had deteriorated due to two accidents he was involved in in September 2021.
He had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mediheal Hospital for at least a month.
His hospitalization was made public in November 2021 when several politicians visited him and used their social media platforms to post his photos.
Another early tragedy involved former Rabai MP William Kamoti, who perished in a grisly road accident on May 29, 2022.
The accident happened on the Mombasa-Malindi Highway in Mnarani, Kilifi County, just after he had presented his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Kamoti died instantly after the Toyota Prado he was traveling in lost control and rolled several times.
The sudden death of a politician shocked many, especially at such a critical time in his political career.
Apart from the above incidents, many current and former legislators have passed away over the years following the 2022 election, indicating a worrying trend among Kenya’s political class.
