MCK Announces Industrial Attachment Opportunities: How to Apply

Share

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has announced the opening of applications for its May–July 2026 media industrial attachment programme, targeting journalism and communication students across the country.

The programme, run in partnership with recognised media houses, is aimed at equipping students with hands-on experience ahead of their transition into the professional job market.

According to the Council, the initiative is structured to bridge the gap between academic training and newsroom realities by immersing students in real-world media environments.

“The programme is designed to provide journalism and communication students with practical work experience before graduation and to prepare them for the job market,” MCK stated.

The three-month attachment, scheduled to run from May to July 2026, will see successful applicants deployed to various media and communication outlets nationwide.

“Attachment lasts for three months: May – July 2026,” the Council confirmed in its official call for applications.

Eligibility Criteria and Requirements

MCK specified that the opportunity is open to students pursuing degrees or diplomas in:

  • Journalism,
  • Media Studies,
  • Communications,
  • Digital Communication, or
  • Corporate Communication.

Eligible applicants must meet strict academic and institutional requirements outlined by the Council.

“Final-year students who need a credit unit or grade to graduate from a recognised university or college” are particularly encouraged to apply, the notice reads.

Additionally, applicants must provide, “a recommendation letter from the university or college, issued within the last two months, clearly stating the period for which the placement is required.”

Other mandatory documents include:

  • Academic transcripts for the current academic year and
  • A valid student identification card.

These requirements, MCK emphasized, are critical in determining eligibility and placement.

Warning Against Fraud and Final Call

MCK has also put up a warning for all applicants on the issue of fraud.

“The Media Council of Kenya does not solicit payments or recruit through agents or agencies,” said MCK, emphasizing that it is extremely important that all requirements be followed scrupulously.

Inviting all students to make the most of this opportunity, MCK also ended with a strong message.
