Share

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced a one-week online training programme for teachers and teacher educators in item writing, which is aimed at strengthening capacity in classroom and national assessment.

In a notice issued on March 31, 2026, KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere said the training is part of its mandate to set and maintain national examination and assessment standards at school, post-school, and teacher education levels.

The programme is designed to support the development of high-quality test items for Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) in basic education and teacher education levels.

The training is scheduled to begin on April 20, 2026. The participants who will complete the course will be certified and may, from time to time, be engaged by KNEC as contracted professionals if the need arises.

Requirements For Applicants

According to KNEC, applicants must meet several minimum requirements to be considered for the training. They must have unquestionable integrity and an irreproachable professional record, and be qualified professionals, experts, or subject specialists in the learning areas they want to apply for.

Applicants are also required to be currently teaching in one of the following levels or institutions: Primary School (Grades 1 to 6), Junior School (Grades 7 to 9), Senior School (currently handling Grade 10), Stage-Based Curriculum levels including Foundation, Intermediate, Prevocational and Vocational, and Teacher Training Colleges under DTE PP&P, DSTE, and DSNE (SNE).
