Update: Sammy Kioko has been hospitalized after reportedly being attacked by Machakos County askaris while protesting over a KSh 19 million unpaid uniform contract.
Comedian Sammy Kioko and his associate Tom Daktari were reportedly arrested on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
This was during a protest at the Machakos County Government headquarters over a long‑running payment dispute with the county administration.
The duo staged the protest to demand payment they say is owed to them.
Kioko, famous for his comedy and online content, claims the Machakos County Government owes him and his sister about Ksh 19 million for uniforms they supplied under a county tender.
He alleges that repeated attempts to resolve the issue directly with the county have failed.
Eyewitnesses reported that tensions escalated outside the county offices. Kioko and Daktari demanded that the county settle its dues immediately.
Videos shared online show county enforcement officers detaining both men during the demonstration.
Earlier, Kioko shared screenshots of a partial payment of Ksh 20,000, which he says was “a token meant to pacify us, not a real settlement.”
He alleges that this small payment forced him to stage a public protest.
“We will not be silenced. If the county refuses to pay what is rightfully ours, we will continue to demand accountability until justice is served,” Kioko addressed the crowd.
The protest drew attention from local residents and other suppliers.
Many joined Kioko, calling on the Machakos County leadership to honor outstanding payments.
