Ministry of Health Issues Easter Safety Advisory Amid Increased Travel and Gatherings

The Ministry of Health Kenya has urged Kenyans to prioritise their health and safety during the Easter holiday, warning that the festive period often comes with increased travel, social gatherings, and public events.

In a public health advisory released ahead of the celebrations, the ministry noted that these activities can expose individuals to preventable risks.

It emphasized the need for vigilance and personal responsibility to reduce accidents, illnesses, and emergencies.

“The Ministry of Health is urging all Kenyans to prioritise their health and safety during the Easter period, which is characterised by increased travel, public gatherings and social activities across the country,” the advisory stated.

The ministry outlined several key safety measures, starting with travel. It encouraged road users to plan journeys in advance, avoid fatigue, and strictly observe traffic rules. It also warned against drunk driving and reminded passengers to wear seatbelts at all times.

Food Safety and Hygiene Guidelines Issued by Ministry of Health

On food safety, the ministry advised Kenyans to consume freshly prepared meals, maintain proper hygiene, and avoid food from unhygienic environments.

It further urged the public to wash hands regularly and store food properly to prevent contamination.

Responsible Celebrations

As the festivities peak, the ministry called for moderation and awareness. “Avoid excessive alcohol consumption,” the advisory warned.

It also encouraged Kenyans to remain vigilant in crowded places and to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable persons.

Emergency Preparedness

“Seek immediate assistance from the nearest health facility in case of emergency,” it advised.

The advisory also highlighted the importance of preventing communicable diseases. It asked citizens to maintain personal hygiene, avoid sharing personal items, and seek medical care if they experience symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, or a persistent cough.

To enhance response efforts, the ministry provided emergency helplines, urging the public to contact local services or call 719, 0729 471 414, or 0732 353 535 when in need.
