Nairobi Estates to Face Five-Day Water Shutdown [FULL LIST]

Residents across several Nairobi estates have been urged to prepare for a five-day water supply interruption following a notice issued by the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC).

In a notice issued on Friday, April 3, 2026, the utility company announced that the shutdown will result from planned works by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) on the Northern Collector Tunnel 1 (NCT1) system.

According to the notice, the interruption is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026, and will last until 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

Acting Managing Director Martin Nang’ole said the shutdown is necessary to complete key infrastructure works linking the Kigoro Water Treatment Plant to the Gigiri and Kabete reservoirs.

“These works will interrupt water supply to several parts of Nairobi City County. We urge customers to use the available water sparingly as we work towards restoring supply,” the notice read.,” the notice read.

Areas to Be Affected by the Water Supply Interruption

The planned works will interrupt water supply in the following areas:

  • Westlands and Lavington: Riverside and Parklands (Westlands); Chalbi Drive, Convent Drive, Gitanga Road, Kunde Road, Hatheru, Mbaazi, Masanduku, Leloghi Gardens, Ole Ndume Road, King’ara Road, Riara Road and surrounding areas in Lavington.
  • Kileleshwa: Kandara Road, Gichugu Road, Mazeras Road, Mbooni Road, Othaya Road, Kaputei, Laikipia Road, Githunguri, DoD, St. George’s School, Tembere Road and surrounding areas.
  • Central Areas: University of Nairobi (UoN), customers along Mamlaka Line, and Valley Road.
  • Kilimani and Hurlingham:
    Argwings Kodhek Road (from Chaka Road to Hurlingham), Hurlingham Shopping Centre and environs, Mtito Andei Road, Kindaruma Road, Rose Avenue, Lower George Padmore Road, Daystar University, Denis Pritt Road, Coptic Hospital and surrounding areas.
  • Dagoretti and Kawangware: Lower Gitanga Road, parts of Kawangware, Sunset Estate, Soweto/SoHill City estates, Kagira, Kagondo, Muhuri Road, Upper Kabiria, Mithonge, Kamwanya, Kahuho Road, Ngina Road, Kikuyu Road, Waithaka, Ndwaru Road, Upper Waithaka, Gachui, Kirigo, Dagoretti Market and Mariguini.
  • Uthiru and Gatina: Uthiru Muthua area, Muchugia Road, Mutego, Mutuini and surrounding areas, Gatina and its environs.
  • Ngong Road Environs: Bishop Magua, Kabarnet Road, parts of Joseph Kangethe Road, Muchai Drive (from Ngong Road to Mbaruk Road), Jamhuri Estate, Upper Hill areas, KNH, KEMRI offices, Highview 1 & 2, Kenyatta Market and surrounding areas.
  • Kibera and Surrounding Areas: Makina, Karanja Road and environs, Fort Jesus, Olympic, Kibera Kianda, parts of Gatwekera and Ayany, Kibera Mwembeni, Makongeni, Kwa DC, Lindi, KEMRI Flats (Mbagathi Way), Highrise Estate.
  • Kang’ethe and Kinoo Junction: Kinoo Road/Joseph Kang’ethe Junction (Togo Flats), Kang’ethe Greens (Upper Flats).
  • Lang’ata and Madaraka: Southlands Estate (Jordan, Sinai, Genesis, Amani, Kwetu, Southend courts), Park I and Ngei II Extension, Madaraka, Hima Gardens, Siwaka, Funguo Estate, Akila II and environs, Rangers Court, Leeban B, Nairobi West Shopping Centre.
  • Karen and Lang’ata South: Bogani East Road, Muiri Lane, Forest Edge, Mukinduri Road, Muricho Road, Mukoma Road, Kisembe East, Magadi Road, Ndorobo Road, Kikeni Road, Ndovu Road, Kifaru Road, Tandara Road, Mutamaiyo, Mundenderu Road, Korongo Road, Swara Lodge environs, Quere Lane, Lang’ata South Road, Mukoyeti (East & West), May East, Dalat, Royale, Kuwinda Road, Kufuga Road, Koitobos, Twiga Hill, Ushirika, Maasai West, Hardy, Milima, Simba Hill, Giraffe Centre, Tumbili, Macushla, Bogani Road, Nzohe, Kasuku, Kwarara, Silanga Road, Kumbe Road, Comboni, Mbagathi Ridge.

  • CBD and Embakasi: Central Business District (CBD), areas along Mombasa Road, South B and South C estates, including Mater Hospital, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), SGR, Athi River EPZ, Coca-Cola, Mukuru, Imara Daima, estates and industries along North Airport Road and Embakasi Village, Tassia Estate.
  • Ngara and Gigiri: Ngara, Forest Road, Desai Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, Murang’a Road, Park Road, Gigiri, Whispers Avenue, Village Market, UNEP and the US Embassy.
  • Industrial Zones: Industries along Masai Road and adjacent areas.
  • Eastlands: Eastleigh, Maringo, Buruburu Phases 3 and 4, Gikomba, Pumwani, Majengo, Shauri Moyo.
  • Mathare and Kasarani Areas: Mathare North, GSU, Rafiki, Utalii College, KPLC Training School, Traffic Headquarters, Maternity Hospital, Malango Kubwa, Juja Road, Huruma, Ngei I & II, Kosovo, parts of Ngumba Estate, Old Muthaiga Road, parts of Thome, Survey, Safari Park Hotel, Kenya Breweries, and parts of Baba Dogo light industries.
  • Industrial Area: The entire Industrial Area.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been advised to store enough water in advance and use it sparingly during the interruption period.

The company also apologised for the inconvenience caused.
