The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board has announced a major leadership change, stating that it will not renew Mr. Humphrey Wattanga’s Contract of Service as Commissioner General.
In line with his contract, Mr. Wattanga will proceed on terminal leave effective immediately.
According to a press release by the KRA Board, released on April 8, 2026, the Board praised the outgoing Commissioner General for his dedicated service and leadership.
“During his tenure, he played a key role in advancing the Authority’s mandate. Notably, Mr. Wattanga has been instrumental in the successful organizational restructuring reforms at the Kenya Revenue Authority,” the statement read.
This decision concludes Mr. Wattanga’s term, during which he led several initiatives to improve operational efficiency and revenue collection across the country.
His efforts strengthened the Authority’s institutional framework and promoted compliance among taxpayers.
Meanwhile, the KRA Board has appointed Dr. Lilian Nyawanda as the Acting Commissioner General. The appointment follows statutory and policy provisions and will continue until a substantive Commissioner General is recruited through a competitive process.
