Rainfall to Persist Across Kenya in Five-Day Forecast

Rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country between April 9 and 13, 2026, even as some regions experience sunny intervals.

In its five-day forecast dated April 8, 2026, the Kenya Meteorological Department said rains will mainly affect parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley.

Meanwhile, the South Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, the Coast and North-eastern Kenya will have varying conditions expected at different times of the day.

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, residents should expect sunny intervals on the mornings of April 9 and 10.

Showers Expected

This will be followed by showers in the afternoon and thunderstorms in a few places on both days.

The nights of April 9 and 10 are likely to experience showers in isolated areas.

On Saturday, April 11, there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, while Sunday, April 12 and Monday, April 13, are expected to bring showers over a few places during the afternoon and also at night.

Temperatures in the West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin will range between 9°C and 32°C across the five days.

East Of Rift Valley

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and neighbouring counties, mornings from April 9 to April 13 will mostly begin with sunny intervals.

Afternoon in these areas will experience light showers over a few places, with nighttime showers also expected in isolated areas throughout the forecast period.

Daytime temperatures are expected to reach about 28°C to 29°C, while nighttime temperatures may drop to between 6°C and 8°C.

Northwestern Kenya

Residents in Northwestern Kenya, including Turkana and Samburu counties, will experience sunny intervals during the mornings and afternoons between April 9 and April 13.

However, a chance of rain over a few places is expected on the morning of Saturday, April 11, while nighttime showers may take place on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11.

Maximum temperatures in the region will remain high at between 37°C and 38°C, with minimum temperatures ranging from 10°C to 12°C.

Northeastern Kenya

In Northeastern Kenya, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties, morning rains over a few places are expected from Thursday, April 9, through Sunday, April 12, followed by a chance of rains on Monday, April 13.

Afternoon and nighttime showers are also expected over a few places across most days within the forecast period.

Daytime temperatures in this region are expected to range between 36°C and 38°C, with minimum temperatures averaging to18°C.

Southeastern Lowlands

On the other hand, in the Southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, residents should expect a chance of light morning rains on Thursday, April 9.

During the afternoon, sunny intervals will be expected. From Friday, April 10 to Sunday, April 12, mornings are expected to remain mostly sunny, with afternoon and nighttime showers over a few places.

Morning rains are predicted to return in some areas on Monday, April 13. Temperatures in the region are expected to range between 13°C and 34°C.

In the Coastal region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties as well as the Tana Delta, morning showers over a few places are expected on Thursday, April 9.

Thereafter will follow sunny intervals in the afternoon. Between Friday, April 10 and Sunday, April 12, residents should expect intermittent showers in the mornings and afternoons.

Nights will remain partly cloudy throughout the forecast period. On Monday, April 13, the region will experience sunny intervals in the morning with a chance of afternoon showers in a few places.

Temperatures along the Coast are expected to range between 23°C and 34°C.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised Kenyans to follow daily county-level forecasts issued between April 9 and April 13 for more localized updates, noting that weather conditions may vary from place to place across the country.
