How to Easily Add Your Spouse to SHA Health Coverage Online

Share

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has launched a significantly improved and digitized process for its members to add their spouses to their health coverage.

This new, user-friendly online system, detailed in recent public advisories, promises to expedite what was previously a more complex procedure, ensuring greater accessibility and efficiency for Kenyans seeking to extend healthcare benefits.

The updated protocol mandates that both the primary member and the spouse must be registered with SHA.

Step-by-Step through the Afyayangu Portal

The process begins at afyayangu.go.ke, where members log in using their established credentials—their ID type, National ID number, and a designated 4-digit PIN.

After logging in, users are directed to their Profile section on the portal.

From there, you will find the Dependents option, which, when selected, allows you to click on Add Dependents and subsequently choose Spouse from the available categories.

Crucial to this step is the provision of the spouse’s identifying information, including their ID type, National ID number, and first name.

The Verification Process

Additionally, a legal document to confirm the marital status—either a marriage certificate or an affidavit—must be uploaded.

To ensure data security and user confirmation, a One-Time Password (OTP) will be dispatched to the member’s registered phone number for verification purposes.

Following the successful verification, members are instructed to submit to finalize the addition of their spouse to the SHA system.

The digital transition marks a shift toward increased convenience, with fewer physical visits required to complete the administrative process.

The authority stated that in-person support will remain available for members who encounter challenges or require clarification.

Members can seek assistance at their respective County SHA offices or at Huduma Centres across the country.

The move is part of SHA’s broader effort to modernize service delivery and improve the overall member experience.
