Transport Disrupted as Angry Protesters Shut Down Kisumu-Busia Highway

Operations involving transport within the busy Kisumu-Busia Highway were badly affected on Thursday, April 9, 2026 morning when people held protests against the attack on Senator of Vihiga County, Godfrey Osotsi, in Luanda town.

Traffic came to a standstill following the protest as motorists had to wait in their cars amidst rising tension in the region.

The demonstration was a result of the anger witnessed following a reported attack that was carried out by some gangs on the said Senator the previous day, Wednesday, 8, at a restaurant in Kisumu.

Crowds of protesters had already descended onto the busy highway in the early hours of the day and blocked several stretches of the road to bring transport to a standstill.

Protestors lit fires along the road and blocked stretches with debris.

Demonstrators Call for Justice

Waving banners and sticks, the protesters screamed out calls of anger at the beating of the politician.

More locals kept pouring in, making the situation more serious and taking longer than expected to disrupt normal operations.

Videos posted online showed motorists stranded in long traffic jams along the road, where some drivers managed to squeeze into spaces created by the protesters.

The frustration was clearly felt among the residents who all agreed that justice had to be done.

The protesters even had knowledge of individuals involved in the attack and were willing to help with the investigation.

“We know the people who beat our Senator. We have enough evidence, and we are ready to bring forward the evidence. As the people of Vihiga, we will not relax seeing one of us being beaten,” explained one of the protesters.

Attack on Vihiga Senator

The Vihiga Senator is presently recuperating after an attack carried out by a band of rogue individuals in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8.

Sources suggest that Osotsi had decided to pay a visit to the West End Mall region in order to cut his hair and then proceed to Java Restaurant where he found a friend as well as a few civilians.

Within no time, he was confronted by a group of people who accused him of having a certain political allegiance. He was thereafter attacked.

As a consequence of this attack, Osotsi was flown to Nairobi where he is receiving treatment while the nature of his injuries has not yet been confirmed.
