Kenyatta University Lowers Cluster Points for 10 Degree Courses

Share

Kenyatta University (KU) has lowered entry requirements for several of its most competitive degree programmes in the current placement cycle.

A review of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal shows a clear downward trend in cutoff points for at least ten key courses compared to the previous cycle.

This change opens doors for thousands of students revising their choices on the KUCCPS portal, making high-demand careers more accessible than before.

Science and Engineering Thresholds Drop

The most significant reductions appear in the STEM fields. The Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology) saw its cutoff drop from 25.602 to 22.345.

Aspiring engineers also have a better chance this year; the Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) requirement decreased from 41.109 to 40.925.

Other Notable Decreases in Science-Based Courses Include:

  • Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry): Down from 32.976 to 27.870.
  • Bachelor of Science (Microbiology): Fell from 25.460 to 24.560.
  • Bachelor of Science (Analytical Chemistry with Management): Dropped sharply from 25.901 to 15.299.

These reductions make technical programmes more attainable for students who previously struggled to meet the high cutoffs.

Medical and Law Programmes Become More Accessible

Even highly competitive professional courses have seen lower thresholds. The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B.) moved from 45.433 to 44.904, while the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) decreased from 41.643 to 40.746.

This adjustment could allow more aspiring doctors and lawyers to secure spots at KU’s Parklands Campus.

Navigating the KUCCPS Portal

Students logged into the KUCCPS portal can access the “Programmes on Offer” tab, which lists all available courses along with their unique seven-digit programme codes.

The system also displays historical cutoff trends side-by-side, helping applicants make informed decisions.

Using the Placement Dashboard Effectively

The portal includes tools that simplify application management. The “Basket” feature lets students temporarily save selected courses, while the system automatically calculates cluster weights to determine eligibility for various degree paths.

Kenyatta University’s adjustments reflect its response to performance trends, ensuring qualified students gain access to technical and professional degrees.

With application deadlines approaching, candidates should check their cluster weights against the latest cutoffs to maximize their chances of entering their preferred programmes at one of Kenya’s leading public universities.
