Ruto Nominates Bishop Kepha Omae as NCIC Chair, Names 8 Members

President William Ruto has nominated Bishop Kepha Nyamweya Omae as the next chairperson of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, alongside eight other members.

In a press release issued on Friday, April 10, by the Executive Office of the President, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei announced the nominations under Notification of Presidential Action No. IX of 2026.

The statement noted that the appointments follow recommendations by a Selection Panel tasked with identifying suitable candidates for the commission.

“His Excellency, the President has this morning caused nominations to the ranks of the membership of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC),” read part of the statement.

Subject to approval by the National Assembly, Omae will chair the commission, which is mandated to promote national unity and peaceful coexistence.

The nominees for membership include Josphine Kirion Eragae (Isiolo), Joseph K. Nguyo (Nyeri), Jackson Swadi Kedogo (Vihiga), Dr. Samuel Mwachiro Mwawasi (Taita Taveta), Irene Chepoisho Tulel (West Pokot), Hassan Billow Ahmed (Wajir), and Jerusah Mwaathime Michael (Kitui).

The Head of Public Service urged Parliament to prioritise the vetting and approval process to enable the commission to effectively discharge its mandate.

If approved, the new team is expected to steer efforts to foster cohesion and integration across the country

Bishop Kepha Omae is set to replace Rev Dr Samuel Kobia, who has served in the role for six years.

The outgoing commissioners of the commission include Wambui Nyutu, Phillip Okundi, Dr. Danvas Makori, Sam Kona, and Abdulaziz Ali Farah.

Profile of the Bishop

Bishop Kepha Omae is a Senior Pastor of Liberty Christian Center. Ordained as a pastor with the Redeemed Gospel Church Inc, he also serves as the presiding Bishop of the Redeemed Gospel Church Inc.

He is the founding chairman of the Kenya Coalition of Church Alliances and Ministries (KCCAM).
Omae has held significant leadership roles, including serving on the board of the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK) alongside other prominent leaders such as Bishop David Oginde.

He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum (KCPF).

Bishop Omae holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organizational Leadership from Pan African Christian (PAC) University, graduating in July 2025.
