President William Ruto during his second day’s visit of the Gusii area launched several development projects worth Ksh 18.2 billion mainly in terms of infrastructure, sports, housing, and economic empowerment in the regions of Kisii and Nyamira.
Addressing the people at Gusii Stadium, President Ruto highlighted the determination by the government to improve the facilities used for sports events in the region, indicating that Gusii Stadium has undergone redevelopment which will transform the image of the facility in terms of sport events.
“Our plan includes improving Gusii Stadium and making it more world-class to give it a better modern look,” said the president.
He further indicated that the redevelopment project is part of government efforts to improve facilities used for sports activities throughout the country.
“This project will help us realize our plans of building world-class sporting facilities like Talanta Sports City Stadium as well as developing 25 new facilities around the country,” he said.
Ruto further disclosed that the government had already broken ground for the construction of a Ksh 1 billion, 14,000-seater Gusii Stadium.
“Broke ground for the construction of the Ksh1 billion, 14,000-seater Gusii Stadium, featuring a FIFA standard pitch and an eight-lane track, set for completion in April 2027,” he said.
“Our goal is to create an environment where our sportsmen can thrive, and sustainably earn a living from their talents,” he added, highlighting the economic potential of sports.
The President later joined thousands of fans to watch a friendly match between Shabana F.C. and Gucha F.C., and handed over a new team bus to Shabana F.C.
Addressing residents and local leaders, Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the region through targeted investments.
“We are transforming the face of Gusiiland by implementing strategic projects in Kisii and Nyamira counties, working with leaders to ensure no part of the region is left behind,” he said.
He outlined key priority areas including affordable housing, modern markets, student hostels, and road infrastructure.
“Our priorities include affordable housing, modern markets, student hostels, roads and bridges, stadia, and water projects, among other infrastructure development projects, to unlock the region’s economic potential and uplift households from the bottom up,” he noted.
According to the President, ongoing investments are already yielding results.
“The results of these investments speak for themselves in the two counties,” he remarked.
In addition to engaging with MPs, the President had discussions with regional leaders like Simba Arati and Amos Nyaribo, as well as MCAs.
“We have met with Kisii and Nyamira leaders. We consulted with grassroots leaders on the development needs of the region and ensured that our plans are geared towards meeting the needs of the people,” Ruto stated.
In Nyamira County, Ruto laid the foundation stone for the Ksh 70 million Ikonge Modern Market, expected to accommodate 200 traders upon completion.

He further revealed that the government is committing substantial resources to the county.
“We are investing Ksh 15 billion to build affordable housing units, modern markets, and student hostels in Nyamira County,” Ruto announced.
Additionally, the President disclosed plans to boost healthcare and sports infrastructure in the county.
“We have secured Ksh 900 million for the construction of a stadium in the county, and will inject Ksh1 billion into the upgrade of Nyamira County Referral Hospital,” he said.

On transport, Ruto highlighted ongoing and upcoming road projects aimed at improving connectivity in the region.
“The 61km Eronge-Kebuse-Omonyenya road is 58 per cent complete, while the Manga-Motemomwamu road stands at 38 per cent,” he noted.
He added that more projects are in the pipeline.
“The Keumbo-Kiendeke road will be launched tomorrow, while Chabera-Nyamusi-Nyamaiya and Tombe-Isinta-Gitaru roads have been advertised and will commence once the processes are completed,” he said.
The President also announced plans for railway expansion to boost regional trade.
“The SGR extension from Narok to Kisumu will include a Ksh 300 million station at Ikonge,” he revealed.
