President William Ruto has launched several multi-million-shilling development projects in Kisii County, covering major areas such as business, healthcare, and infrastructure in an effort to speed up economic development.

While inspecting the developments in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, the Head of State indicated that the development of Ksh 75 million Mogonga Market project was well underway and that it had the ability to revolutionize small-scale businesses in the area.

“Visited Ksh 75 million Mogonga Market Project, Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, Kisii County. The project will provide a conducive environment for trading among 200 businessmen,” he noted.

President Ruto took advantage of the opportunity to emphasize that his government has been faithful in delivering on its promises and commitments as far as development is concerned.

“Over the last three years, we have demonstrated to ourselves and to everyone that our word is our bond. In every part of our great nation, we are making our commitments a reality and implementing transformative projects,” he stated.

Expansion of Health and Education Infrastructure

In Nyaribari Chache Constituency, the President laid the foundation stone for new student hostels at Nyamache Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), positioning the institution for expansion in training capacity.

“Laid the foundation stone for student hostels at Nyamache KMTC, Nyaribari Chache Constituency, Kisii County,” he announced.

He linked infrastructure development to broader healthcare goals, adding, “When the infrastructure is ready, more courses will be taught at the college and enable the training of more professionals in the region to strengthen our universal health programme.”

Further reinforcing the health sector, Ruto disclosed increased funding allocations to local facilities.

“We have committed Ksh 100 million to upgrade Nyamache Sub-County Referral Hospital. Additionally, we have provided Ksh 20 million to build 10 additional classrooms and two laboratories at Nyamache Kenya Medical Training College,” he stated.

Markets to Empower Small-Scale Traders

The President also commissioned the Masimba Modern Market in Nyaribari Masaba, a Ksh 55 million project designed to accommodate 300 traders.

“Commissioned the Masimba Modern Market, Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County. Built at a cost of Ksh 55m, it will accommodate 300 traders,” he said.

Ruto emphasized the improved working conditions provided by the facility, particularly for informal traders.

“Now they have a dignified market, with cold storage among other facilities. This is the true meaning of bottom up,” he remarked.

He contrasted the new development with previous conditions faced by traders, noting, “The traders have been conducting their activities in open air, exposed to rain, scorching sun, mud and dust.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to grassroots economic empowerment, the President added, “We are honouring our promise to give Mama Mboga and other traders decent places of work, one market after another.”

Road Network Boost to Unlock Economic Potential

Infrastructure development formed a central pillar of the tour, with the government allocating significant resources to road construction across the county.
