KAA Announces Appointment of New CEO

Moses Wekesa has been named the new Managing Director and CEO of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), indicating a major leadership shift in Kenya’s aviation industry.

According to an official press release dated April 14, 2026, from Nairobi, the board of directors appointed Moses Wekesa to the coveted position following a stringent interview process.

The board indicated that Mr. Wekesa was the best person to guide the authority in its mission.

“This appointment comes after a thorough, rigorous and competitive interview process that established that Mr. Wekesa is the right person to take the mantle at KAA,” the press release stated.

He has experience in the development of infrastructure projects and in project management, having successfully handled various high-profile projects in different parts of the world.

His recruitment will definitely strengthen Kenya’s reputation as an important hub for air transport and logistical activities in the region.

Wide Experience in Infrastructure and Energy Sectors

Prior to his current appointment, Wekesa was working as the Business Development Director at KenGen, a firm whose main area of activity is power generation.

During his tenure in this company, he demonstrated exceptional abilities in developing the core business operations of the company.

“He has managed high-impact projects across diverse economic sectors in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa,” the authority mentioned.

Educational Background and Professional Qualifications

Wekesa is a graduate of JKUAT with a BSc in Engineering and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering (Applied Mechanics) from the University of Nairobi.

He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Finance, Appraisal, and Project Planning from the University of Bradford.

“His knowledge is not limited to the field of airports but covers the broader infrastructure industry, making him ready to develop Kenya’s aviation infrastructure,” the statement further explained.

Transition and Ongoing Aviation Modernization

The board expressed appreciation to outgoing Acting Managing Director Dr. Mohamud Gedi for his service during the transition period. It noted that continuity in leadership would be critical as KAA accelerates modernization initiatives across its airport network.

“The board further acknowledges the smooth transition particularly as KAA’s airport modernization initiatives accelerate,” the statement said.

KAA is currently undertaking major infrastructure upgrades, including the modernization and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), aimed at enhancing capacity and efficiency.

“KAA continues to implement transformative initiatives, including the modernization and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), aimed at strengthening Kenya’s position as a regional aviation and logistics hub,” the statement concluded.
