A 17-year-old girl who was abducted from her home in Malindi has been safely rescued following a swift operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The incident began on April 12, 2026, when the minor’s father, a senior officer at GK Prison Malindi, reported her missing.
At first, the case appeared to be a disappearance. However, investigators quickly uncovered details that pointed to a more serious crime.
Soon after, the situation took a dramatic turn when the suspect contacted the family.
“What began as a missing person report quickly escalated into a confirmed abduction case after the suspect, later identified as Lucky Okoth, contacted the family demanding a ransom of Ksh. 200,000 while issuing threats to harm the victim,” detectives confirmed.
The suspect intensified pressure on the family during the ordeal. According to investigators, the suspect even allowed the girl to speak directly with her parent, confirming she was in captivity.
Earlier findings had already raised concerns about the girl’s communication before her disappearance. Authorities established that she had been in contact with unknown individuals through two mobile phone numbers.
Meanwhile, detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB), working alongside officers in Malindi Sub-County, launched a targeted operation.
Using forensic analysis and intelligence-led tracing, they tracked the suspect to the Muyeye area within Malindi town. Officers moved in swiftly and arrested him, effectively ending the tense situation.
