Teenager Killed in Dispute Over Shared Kenya Power Tokens

Share

A 17-year-old boy died in Kayole, Nairobi, after a dispute over shared electricity token payments turned violent.

Police and witnesses said the teenager and a neighbour shared a prepaid Kenya Power connection in their apartment, which automatically cut off after the tokens were exhausted, allegedly because the neighbour had failed to pay his share.

The teenager then confronted the neighbour over the unpaid contribution, leading to the fatal incident.

Neighbours told police the two had been operating under a shared arrangement to purchase electricity tokens for their residence before the incident.

Police said the confrontation later escalated into a physical altercation during which the suspect allegedly picked up a wooden club and struck the teenage boy on the head.

The deceased teenager was then rushed to the hospital shortly after the attack by neighbours and other responders, but he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
