Journalist Denish Ochieng has accused Standard Group PLC of failing to settle his unpaid dues and allegedly directing its security officers to assault him when he went to demand payment.
He said the media house owes him Ksh 217,786, an amount he claims has remained unpaid since 2024. The allegations raise fresh concerns about how media organizations handle exit payments for former staff.
Ochieng said that he made several attempts to recover the money before visiting the company premises to seek clarification. He alleges that the situation escalated when he arrived at the offices, where he expected answers but instead encountered hostility.
He maintained that the incident left him shaken and frustrated over what he describes as a lack of accountability.
“The Standard Group PLC has directed it’s security officers to assault me when I went to ask for money they owe me since 2024. I have tried all possible means but since they operate with impunity and can do anything they want to anyone, they feel violence is the way to go,” Denish wrote on his Facebook page.

He also drew attention to what he described as a wider pattern affecting former employees. According to him, delayed or unpaid dues have placed many ex-staff under emotional and financial strain, especially after leaving the organization.
“After we left in 2024, one of us called Katana, died because of depression after the company refused to pay him his dues of over 25 years. Rashid also died last year December because of BP,” he added.
Ochieng further questions the human cost of unresolved payments. He argues that prolonged delays continue to harm former colleagues who depend on these funds for survival and medical needs.
“How many more does this company want to depress to death? All I need from you is Ksh. 217,786. Upon receipt of this money, I will seek medication,” he said.

In recent months, former employees of Standard Group have raised complaints over delayed payments and exit benefits.
Some ex-staff staged protests in Nairobi in April 2025, demanding settlement of salary arrears, redundancy packages, and statutory deductions they say remain unpaid despite repeated promises from management.
